Water temp sender.

Are there any advantages or dis-advantages from taking water temp from the cylinder head as opposed to the inlet manifold.

Re: Water temp sender.

I am interested in this since at the moment I appear to have "strange goings on" in respect of temperature indication and electric fan control.
However on my Edelbrock manifold the sender is right by the side of the thermostat/top hose connection housing and this makes sense to me as it is picking up the temperature going in to the top hose and therefore is the temp the rad has to deal with .

Re: Water temp sender.

David.

I have 2 options one from the head (edlebrock) the 2nd from the manifold, to install in the manifold will interfere with the top hose from the current outlet.I wondered whether the head would give a more accurate indication of water temp in the block. The rad fan will be controlled by switch in the top hose so I suspect the readings will differ slightly, ie indicated temp at the head slightly higher than the top hose, if that makes any sense.

Re: Water temp sender.

Tony,
I don't really know but I think I would expect the highest temp to be in the top hose (once the stat has opened). Given that senders and gauges are not that accurate it probably makes little difference between the head nd the manifold.
