sumo front hub/discs

Hi There

Just a quickie,I am sorting the front Suspension on the sumo.It says to enlarge the hub dia from 12mm to 14mm.Have done that and balljoint fits in,but not much of the taper is going into the hub.Nut would fit on with a couple of threads showing through the top.Does this sound right?.Seems to me the taper should go a lot further up !!
Also does anyone know what wear is allowed on the discs I have a ridge of approx 2mm on outer edge

Any help would be great
cheers
steve

Re: sumo front hub/discs

Steve, I went jag based so cant really comment on your situation. However someone please correct me if im wrong but I do believe that the ford based kit requires the hole to be re tapered as well as enlarged.

Re: sumo front hub/discs

Steve,

Anthony's right. If I recall correctly, because the track rod is mounted on top of the carrier on the Sumo rather than below it in the standard Ford configuration, it has to be re-tapered. The build manual has all the instructions and there have been previous posts on here. Search the Pilgrim forum if need be.

Re: sumo front hub/disc's

I might be wrong but surly it is the steering arm that has to have the taper reversed as the steering rack now attachés from above rather than below ( or the other way around ) & not the ball joint on the hub . But as I have not built a Sumo I would check with someone who has first. :thumb:

Martin - that's correct, it's what I was referring to also.

Re: sumo front hub/discs

Gents

the hole enlarged from 12-14mm locates the lower ball joint to the Ford upright, a taper fit is prefered but enlarging the hole works, three plus threads showing is normal.

You are all right with regards inverting the rod ends and tapering the upright, but thats another fun task

A for disks get new ones, its now worth the hastle, I paid £35.00 (each) for replacement vented Cosworth disks, standard types are a lot less.

Re: sumo front hub/discs

Thanks for the replies guy"s

Gary your right it was not the track rod fitting I was meaning.
It just did not look right with hardly any of the actual taper being used
I agree about the discs seen them priced only £20 each
cheers

Its not as bad as it looks, the threaded portion of the ball joint is quite a snug fit in the 14mm hole, when fully torqued up its not going any where :thumb:

Happy building
