Jaguar 3.31 Powerlok Diffs

Hi

I have recently been offered a set of Jaguar XJ6 axles and would like some advice from those in the know as to which diff ratio to go for.

The guy has two rear axles for sale, one with a 3.056 standard diff, and the other with a 3.31 Powerlok diff both of which he will gaurantee. Now firstly the Powerlok diff is gonna cost me another £150 over the cost of the 3.056 option, but I don't have too much of a problem with that if the Powerlok diff is worth the extra money.

Just to broaden the picture, I will be using a 351 Windsor engine. Currently i dont have a gearbox (but im thinking of using a 5spd Getrag when the time comes to source one).

Any advice on the above would be appreciated.

Cheers Kev

Rich

Thanks alot for the quick response and the table of road speeds for the 351W-Getrag-3.31 setup. That all looks great. Just wondering if the Powerlok and the 3.31 ratio is worth the extra over the 3.056 diff?

Kev,
3.056 don't sound right to me, would it be a 3.54 diff?

I think its what is known normally as a 3.08 (the guy just told me it was a 3.056!).

I got a 3.07 PL (from a V12 E-type) with my 4-speed gearbox...

Re: Jaguar 3.31 Powerlok Diffs

someone may put me right here, but according to my data
the E type and the XJS both had 3.07 diff's with powerlock as standard

Re: Jaguar 3.31 Powerlok Diffs

I have a 2.88 PL in mine at the moment and a 3.54PL on the shelf - would be happy to swap with sombody who needs one for a ratio in the middle somewhere.....

For info am currently using 2.88 on Muncie 4 spd and 350SBC.
3.54 seems a bit short for my box.
