Focibly disengaging stuck clutch

Apparently the adjustment problem with my twin clutch set up is likely to be that of a sticking clutch plate. Has anybody identified a method of freeing without having to take the gearbox off etc.

For example I have the car on axle stands is it worth trying in gear with hanbrake on letting the clutch out slowly to see if it will brake it clear.

Your thoughts would be appreciated as I am not relishing the task of separating the gearbox whilst in the car, particularly as it is a bit of a pig dog rat getting good alignment of two driven plates let alone one.

Cheers
Mike.

Re: Focibly disengaging stuck clutch

Mikey,

Had the same problem during build....

Put car in gear, push clutch pedal to floor and spin the starter - Job done!

Re: Focibly disengaging stuck clutch

I had the same problem a couple of weeks ago, as the engine & box were mated 5 months before i had all of the clutch pipework in place to open the pressure plate. Result: it got stuck.

It took quite a bit of oomph to release.

In the end it took having the back end jacked (and on stands!!) then with the foot hard on the clutch and the gas pedal down to hold the revs at 3k or so and then wrenching the hand brake on several times.

Re: Focibly disengaging stuck clutch

Put the car on stands, run in 3rd or 4th gear. Press hard on all three pedals at once.

Re: Focibly disengaging stuck clutch

Hi guys the problem is caused by dampness on the flywheel clutch plate and pressure plate they weld there selfs together with a light film of rust, ive come accross this with the old triumphs when they had been stood for a few months, solution and least force full is start car in neutral obviously and run car for quite a while maybe 1hr pumping clutch quite a bit, you got to get the whole engine and box hot, then switch off, you can then start car in 1st or reverse makeing sure nothing is in your way pump clutch and brake rapidly while moveing,it usualy releases in seconds,if no room arround you or your a bit nervous jack up car and place chassis on axle stands and do same.:thumb: :thumb: :thumb:

Re: Focibly disengaging stuck clutch

I agree with Rangrov. Had this exact same problem last Friday. A good & knowledgable friend got the engine nice and hot and then started the car in first and reverse - before you know it, the car is working on all gears. Magic!:thumb:

Re: Focibly disengaging stuck clutch

If all else fails re suggestions start her up in say first, drive round the block or suitable area, keep the clutch on the floor, accelerate and-decelerate and bang the brake pedal a few times, should go with a bang eventually! Osgood:angel:
