Jag Front Suspension

Guys,

a quick question re Jag front suspension

On the top wishbone mount, where it attaches to the chassis via the bushes, there are two nyloc nuts holding the wishbones on and compressing the bushes (upper fulcrum I think)

On mine, when the correct(?) torque of 55ft/lb is set on these nuts, there is not enough thread passing through the nuts to pass the SVA. (The nuts are the right size - they are not very deep.)

Anyone had a similar problem?

There is a very thick washer under the nuts to provide pressure on the bushes (as well as the chrome thrust washer) can I replace with a thinner one?

Thanks
Pete

I too have the same issue with my nearside upper fulcrum attach bolts being a bit short, the camber shims I have used together with the thickish washers make only a couple of threads showing. This is also the same for the steering track rod end stud and the lower wishbone front LH spring carrier bracket bolts. I guess I willhave to replace for longer bolts.

What are the SVA regs for thread lenght showing. Because the original upper ball joint bolts that pass through the castor shims had only 2 threads visable.

Just getting my Rad lower hose anglre shifted because I took the GD advice and fitted the rear rad fans on a Jag build and haean issue with the clearence between the steering rack gaiter and the fan shroud.... no problems all the minor tasks tend to be the biggest time waster.

Re: Jag Front Suspension

Dave,

Thanks for the reply. I spoke to AB today, and he suggested replacing the thick washer with a thinner one. As for SVA regs, he says that 1 and a 1/2 threads showing on a nyloc are sufficient.

He also said that if some form of locking device is required - nyloc, spring washer or threadlock will do, so rather than replacing bolts, you could use a different method, but from what you say, it seems that you have enough anyway.

On closer inspection, I also have a problem with the N/S upper ball joint and the N/S track rod end......just when you thought it was safe to say it was ready....

I put the fans on the front for some protection, but they look neater on the back.

I agree, its all the silly little jobs that take the time, but hey, what would we do while waiting for an SVA date? (I sent the form off last week:thumb: )

Pete use thinner washers if it helps the SVA syndrome! Don't take a lot of notice of Jaguar recommenced torque figures this varies according to what bushes & sleves you use. Bolt it up until things start to loose lack of movement then slacken off till free, much like a wheel bearing adjustment. Osgood:angel:
