Attaching Interior Panels/ dash

Hi guys,

nice quick one for you here....

Im about to start making up my interior, but am unsure of the type of clips to use to attach the side panels to the doors. Ive seen the little black plasticy type push in screw things but how do you attach those to the panel underneath the trim (leather)?

Also the dashboard fastenings, if im going to use bolts then how do you stop them from turning when fastening and also how do I make them not visible under the trim?

cheers
Ben

Re: Attaching Interior Panels/ dash

For what its worth this is what I did....

Dashboard
Grind down M8 screws until head is only a mm or 2 high. Dril hole in dash (before covering) and lokcnut in position. Cover front and back of fixing with epoxy. Sponge will cover the front part, and at the back use nutwith a lockwasher or springwasher - doesnt need to be done up that tight as its not carrying much load.

Alternatively, use coach bolts.

Other panels (could have done the above till I found....) black plastic push-in panel mountings from Halfords. Just drill hole in panel and push through. Then cover panel. Mark corresponding positions on body, drill holes, push mount panel. Job done.

Re: Attaching Interior Panels/ dash

ah right so the for the push in jobbies, the clip into the panel themslves do they....

you wouldnt happen to have a piccy of those would you?

Ok that makes sense about the dash, If I dont use nylocs on the back then it isnt gunna be under much stress to turn it so should be ok figure tight I suppose....but with a spring washer it aint comming off....

cheers Kevin

Re: Attaching Interior Panels/ dash

Ben,

As a alternative to ground down bolts , I countersunk the the holes in the dash (having laid a reinforcing layer of fibreglass behind) and then used countersunk headed screws.

For fixing the door panels, how's about velcro?

Used a little more archaic method, but it works a treat.

Re: Attaching Interior Panels/ dash

Woolies sell green trim clips for your interior panels. These clips fix round the end of th ply that you are going to put your trim on and then just pop into holes you drill in the inner door skin. Completly invisible.
