Thermostat

Hi

I need to order my thermostat for a 350 SBC engine from summit. They sell 3 types of thermostat rated at 160, 180, 190 degrees. Which one should I use to sit under the thermostat housing on the engine?

Cheers

Re: Thermostat

I'd go with a UK wax type stat, they're only £4 from Real steel! I took the USA made brass bellows type stat out of my 302 Ford (in a RAM), replacing it with a wax stat, and it now warms up to a water temp of 75-80C in about 2-3 miles, the oil also warms up a lot quicker, about 65-70C in the same distance, the gaffer tape on the radiator core has been thrown in the bin-much prettier!
The temps even out at 85C water and 85-90C oil, no matter how long or hard you drive it.
I think the standard wax stats are around 85C but the build tolerance is quite wide.
