Re: Fuel filler caps

Ben.

The filler cap is in 2 parts. The top part of the cap (the flip-up bit) itself unscrews from the flange which is the bottom bit (wide bit at bottom of pic), the flange has a stepped fitting on the underside to take fuel hose approx 2" dia. this projects about 2-3" under the wing or body.Difficult to describe, I can take some pics of mine but not `til tomorrow, somebody else may have a better description or picture.

Be sure to buy one that`s sva complient, S&J motors are probably your best bet approx £160 complete (does look the dog`s danglies tho`).

Hope that helps.

Tony .

Re: Fuel filler caps

My mistake Brasscraft for the cap not S&J.
S&J wanted nearly £200 for same thing.

Re: Fuel filler caps

Hi Tony,

wasnt too keen on the Sva caps from europa, are they the same? if not can I get some piccys please

I think I know what your on about, but the flange on the one in the piccy doesnt have anything projecting downwards, it lies flat to the body, Im thinking that maybe they are to go over existing caps and I need a different flange....

Right, piccys please Tony

Re: Fuel filler caps

Ben, be careful when buying SVA compliant caps as I'm farely sure they will fail regardless if mounted above the boot anywhere on the flat surface, they need to be mounted sunk into the rear wing to have any chance of complying.

Re: Fuel filler caps

correct, mine failed as it protruded more than 50mm above the surface,im sure europa still claim the very same cap to be sva compliant, but i dont know if its been changed

Re: Fuel filler caps

Ben, I had a chat with the guys at SVA reference the fuel filler cap during my test, he took great pleasure taking the p**s out of the dummy SVA kit supplied by Pilgrim which included a fuel cap that had all the sharp radii ground off, it looked naff but done the job, you may be able to get your hands on a similar one, its a key area for the test so becareful.

Re: Fuel filler caps

Ben, I've initially gone for the Aero type flush cap to avoid all these problems. Post SVA will then be changing it for an Aston type cap. You are more than welcome to borrow the Aero cap to get you through the SVA once I've done that, probably late summer, depends when you're looking at completing.
