rocker adjustment

Hi Guys
I have recently fitted my RV8 with adjustable rockers and no matter how many times I adjust them I am unable to remove tappet noise, I have adjusted them (several times) using recommended method i.e. valves completely off the lobe, tighten adjuster until resistance felt when twisting pushrod between fingers then screw adjuster another 1/2 turn
Any suggestions?

roger

Re: rocker adjustment

Just a thought are the lifters solid or roller and are they working ok.Also do you need longer pushrods now. When converting some Ford V8 s you need longer pushrods.

Re: rocker adjustment

Hi osgood
Tappets are hydraulic but your diagram is relevant to standard rockers although pinciple is the same. My problem is that I am unable to adjust the tappet ticking out.

Re: rocker adjustment

Hi Roger, Hydraulic followers mean as Osgood posted you need to adjust them with this method, the fact that you have adjustable rockers means nothing except you wont need to shim the posts. The way you describe adjusting them initially is how you do the Ford setup I have never heard of doing it this way with a RV8

Re: rocker adjustment

Hi Tinka
I have already adjusted them using method on osgoods diagram prior to fitting inlet manifold and tappet noise was horrendous. I then adjusted them by the method previously described as per Chevy / Ford. Correct me if I am wrong but I would have thought if have hydraulic lifters and adjustable rockers the engine type is irelevant

Re: rocker adjustment

Have to confess to not knowing the difference but having now rebuilt both a Ford and my original Engine a RV8 I used the appropriate method for both and had no problems at all. Lets hope Russel Ram sees this post perhaps he can shed some light on your problem

Re: rocker adjustment

Roger
As mentioned earlier are your lifters solid or roller type. This makes a big difference due to pre-load etc.

Re: rocker adjustment

Roger as previosly mentioned by all, are your liffters solid or hydraulic?? Have as Tinker said the adjustments for hydrualic lifters between 20 & 60 thou, if wild cam then towards 60 is best??

If solid lifter's then it is a different storey. V8's set up, and anumilimum work different from normal ;instead of the tappet closing say on a 4 pot or six the V8 to minimum the V8 opens out which must admit I did not know!! My tappetts with Yella Terra rollres tappet clearence is 22 thou hot but only 7 thou cold does this now give you a clue??? Osgood:angel:
