| Chevy Small Block Starter Motor Hi all, I have just fitted a re-conditioned starter motor to my SBC motor but the cog on the starter sits about 1 inch away form the flex plate (I know the gear slides forward when the solenoid fires, I am talking 1 inch sideways... see pic) Do starter motors come in different sizes or do they have different pinion gears fitted? How can I get mine converted if need be. It feels like 2 steps forward 1 step back at the moment. Does it get better or worse from here? Thanks in advance, Brian C

| Re: Chevy Small Block Starter Motor There are 2 types of starters for the different sizes of flex plates. I think the number of teeth on the flex plate is either 153 or 168 or something like that. You look like you have the starter for the 168. The 153 uses different holes in the block to mount it further in. If you are lucky your block has both, mine doesn't. If you have the holes change your starter if not either drill the holes or change your flex plate/flywheel. Neil |

| Re: Chevy Small Block Starter Motor Thanks FMAN, I noticed when bolting the starter on there were three holes. The starter bolts on with two bolt. Hopefully I'll only have to drill one more hole... Chrs, Brian C

| Re: Chevy Small Block Starter Motor if you have three bolt holeon the block , for the starter then you should not have to redrill anything, one starter has inline bolt s and the other has offset bolts , and as already said one moves the starter nearer the flywheel/flexplate. hope this helps , if you have any problems please give me a ring
