UJ suppliers?

Hello
I have just installed a wilwood puller slave clutch cylinder. Problem is when the clutch pedal is depressed the mounting threaded bar (not clutch fork end, but mounting rod end with 'eye' on) flexes. The bar only flexes approx 1-2mm sideways (in 1 plane), so am i worrying about nothing?
I was thinking of putting a UJ in the bar as to take up the sideways flexing upon depressing the clutch.
Any idea to where i can get on from? I have seen similar things in pilgrim parts list for steering column, but i need one that will accept approx 8mm shaft (to be welded) at either end. The threads are imperial, but approx 8mm.
Other than that the clutch appears to work fine, but i have not checked to see if there is sufficient movement to release the clutch with engine running.
Cheers

Kev. Not something i've noticed with mine. Could you not turn the rosejoint and it's mounting bolt through 90 degrees to allow it to swivel/move in the sideways plane? Just a thought :thumb:

Re: UJ suppliers?

Hi Chris
The rosejoint will allow the whole assembly to swivel. It is a difficult thing to explain, but thee closest thing i can assimilate it to is a banana. It is curved when clutch is depressed. The whole assembly needs to offset itself when the clutch is applied.
In an ideal world the mounting at the engine end would be a lot further out from the engine, but space / exhaust manifolds (when they arrive) will not allow it.
I think it must be to do with arc of the fork on the clutch?!?
Any toughts on UJs? Farnell if anyone has a catalogue?
Cheers

Re: UJ suppliers?

Top geezer Chris.
Do you think me putting one of these in the threaded bar section will have the necessary results?
My thought was that instead of the bar flexing, the uj would kink slightly instead.
Or am i barking up the wrong tree?
Can anyone order from rs or is it a company thing?
Cheers

Re: UJ suppliers?

Hi Kev, Iain fitted one of thees to his car ( which is a viper ) and on his instillation both ends of the puller were able to swivel, one end had the rose joint and the other had a domed type nut which fitted to the clutch fork with a lock nut on the back to stop it undoing. Unless I am misunderstanding your description completely it sounds like you have solidly mounted one end Surely this is your problem

Re: UJ suppliers?

Hi Tinka
I have mounted the slave using the rose joint and domed nut thing. It does 'rock' on the domed nut (connected to clutch fork), but as you press the clutch the slave 'bends' in toward the engine.
Gearbox is a T5 with xr4i bellhousing using type 9 fork (to which i had to weld an extension on to get the fork to throw far enough away from the bellhousing front flange).
Clear as mud? I will try to post some piccies tomorrow.

Re: UJ suppliers?

One thing, when we first fitted Iain's, it did bend how you described this was due to the hole in the clutch fork being marginally too small and restricting the amount of swivel on the clutch fork. ( hope that makes sense )opened the hole up slightly, problem solved . :thumb:

Re: UJ suppliers?

I have opened up hole a fair bit already, how much did you dare open it up to? Bearing in mind that the part of the clutch fork that the domed bit fits into, is all self fabricated on mine. Shaft is approx 8mm, so how much clearance did you allow?
Cheers

Re: UJ suppliers?

Kev.

I've been trying to get my head round the problem as it is such an easy installation on a Ex cable setup post some pic's and it may become clearer. Here's a bad pic of mine :thumb:
