Oil temp sender location

Hi Guys,

Where is the recommended place to locate the oil temp sender?

I was going to buy an adaptor to fit to the oil pressure sensor mounting hole on my Ford 351W engine just in front of the oil filter, but when I was discussing this with the Irish guy at Real Steel, he said it needed to be mounted on the oil pan to give a true temp reading.

I don' really want to do this as I've got a chrome plated Ford Racing pan already fitted.

What are your opinions please?

Re: Oil temp sender location

If you have an oil cooler fitted you can mount the sender in the hose using threaded adapter from Think Automotive. Mine cost around £15

Re: Oil temp sender location

Richard,

Not sure I'd want to take the temp at the oil cooler end of things, there's a wax stat in between that and the engine....can't be a good idea?

I've got mine in the sump plug, can't remember where it came from though sorry.

Jim

Re: Oil temp sender location

Drill and tap a hole in the sump plug (if its big enough) apply locktite to the threads to seal ( you dont want it vibrating loose and lose your oil over the road) screw in the temp sender.

Jobs a good 'un................

Cheers,

Tony

Re: Oil temp sender location

Hi,
I mounted it between the waxstat and the take off plate so that it measures the temperature before the oil goes to the cooler and before the wax stat opens.
