SBC Distributor

Hi All

I'm rebuilding my SBC, but I'm having a problem with the distributor. I've replaced the stock intake with a Edelbrock Performer intake and when I put the dizzy in place there is a gap of about 1cm between the intake and the dizzy seat. I checked the thickness of the intakes and they are different.

Anybody come across this before?

Thakns
Gary

Re: SBC Distributor

Turn the crank and it should fall in position.

Re: SBC Distributor

you can also do it without turning the crank....
turn the cog on the bottom of the dizzy slightly until the slot at the inside of that same cog drops into the oil pump.....

when it drops in, if the engine is at TDC on number 1 piston, the rotor arm, when viewed from behind the engine, should be pointing to the number 1 piston (aka... pointing at 11:00 clock)

Seems like I was right in the first post. I've just removed the dizzy cover and rotated the crank and the rotor arm moves round. So it must be located correctly. The Performer intake is about 1cm shallower than the standard one that came off (Throttle body)

anybody any ideas please?

Gary

Re: SBC Distributor

Measure the gap with feelers and make up a spacer. You will need about 20 Thou additional clearance which should be afforded by the gasket.
