Tripac Fans

Hi,
I am trying to change the direction on my Tripac fan. Does anyone know how to reverse the fan assembly. There is a clip that holds the fan to the motor, which I have removed, but it still won't come off the shaft. It must be easy, just i can't see it.

Re: Tripac Fans

If it's anything like the two Pacet ones i have, once you've removed the circlip you need ot push, (or pull as the case may be) rather forcefully to get the blade assembly off.

(The blurb that came with mine implicitly said dont smack it with a hammer, which is what i did and it eventually came off :thumb: )

Re: Tripac Fans

I think I gently used a 2 legged hub puller on my Pacet ones. One of the few things I haven't managed to break!!

Why can't you just reverse the polarity?

If you just change the polarity the blades will be going the wrong way, changing polarity will only work if you change it from a blower to a sucker or vice versa. :thumb::thumb:

Re: Tripac Fans

They do work if you reverse the polarity, just as a boat propellor will pull the boat backwards in reverse, but it will be pretty inefficient.

The blades have a shallow angle of attack that curves to a steep trailing edge to push the air backwards, if you just reverse the direction they spin the aerodynamics are all wrong.

Re: Tripac Fans

Thats the reason I am having to change mine. I had presumed, when I fitted it that it was a sucker. Only now the weather is getting hot and the fan comes on more have I noticed it was efficient at cooling the engine. I then checked and noticed a small aroow on the top showing airflow direction. i.e it was set up as a blower.

Anyway a bit of gentle persuassion is now called for !!

If you can't get the blade off, why not put in on the front off the rad as a blower.
