Weber tuning specialists?

Hi Guy's,
I'm looking for some one to tune my weber carbs, does any body know of any good tuning places in (or around) the midlands?

The car run's ok until i go on the motorway (constant high rev's) then one or two of the carbs seem to flood?

cheers :thumb:

Re: Weber tuning specialists?

Years ago, I had my Webers set up by Osellis who are now in Witney and they did a good job. At the time they had a rolling road but I am not sure that they still have that facility.

Perhaps you can tell us a bit more about the set-up and the symptoms, carburetor icing springs to mind as a prime culprit?

Re: Weber tuning specialists?

Thanks for that, I'll do a search on them..

A bit more about the set-up.. It's V12 (5.3 jag) with 6 twin 40 IDF Weber's and E-type ignition system.

I've just changed the Plugs, leads, Disy Cap, rotor arm and also changed all the carb and manifold gaskets just in case there was a vacuum leak.

I must say it's already much better but I've done all I can do and need somebody with a bit of experience to balance them all out and make sure the linkage gear is synchronised.

My main problem is has soon as i get into top gear on the motorway one or two of the carbs seem to run too rich and flood to the point i have to pull over and just let it run on low revs for a few minutes. I also have a bit of a hesitation between 2-3k..

Generally it's not too bad but I'd prefer an expert's opinion.

(This was before i did the work on them, the carbs and linkage are much cleaner now.. also filters are a new edition and it runs the same with or without them!)

Re: Weber tuning specialists?

Try Rob Beere racing at Rob Beere Racing Services Ltd, Unit 1 Priory Mill, Charter Avenue, Coventry CV4 8AF. They have been given to me as the experts for V12 tuning.

Re: Weber tuning specialists?

Best man for Webers is Peter Baldwin at Wilshire's, Wimpole, Cambs. They are MG specialists generally, but Peter moved his rolling road there a few years ago. He may be getting on a bit, but he's still winning one of the Mini championships regularly, and if you go pre-season you'll be queued up behind a long string of appointments for some very exotic racing machinery!

Re: Weber tuning specialists?

Rich,
Looking at your picture of the setup, it seems that you have a bonnet clearance problem at the offside rear.
It would seem that the foam filter is being squashed and this will severely restrict the airflow to this one carburettor barrel.

(Just re-read the post and you say it runs the same with or without them)

What I would do is drive the car until you have the symptom, then find somewhere safe to stop and let the engine cool down.
Then check the plugs to determine exactly which cylinders are running rich.

Do you get black exhaust smoke?

Simon.

Re: Weber tuning specialists?

From the symptoms you describe and the picture I would ALMOST put money on it being a carburetor icing problem. To solve it will not be easy, you need an airbox or similar so that you can duct some warm air though the carbs.

Re: Weber tuning specialists?

Hi - i have same setup - used Nigel at TPP Service and Performance - he did rolling road tune and changed the jets, cost 200ish of which 50% was the parts. It went much better after, but all he really did was balance them which having seen it i could do if i had a decent suction guage (he adjusted the linkges so all 6 opened at once then adjusted the air bypasses so all 12 had the same idle pressure- not too hard really) and changed the jets for standard known values base on what bhp/rpm/mpg i wanted. They're at 01527 882356 and very competent.
cheers

Re: Weber tuning specialists?

Try D&B carburettors in the cattle market nottingham, they have been tuning webbers for 30 years and are well known for being pretty good at it!
