Slight dink in new cam bearings...

Doea anyone think that this slight scratch in my new cam bearing will be a problem? My dad seemed to think it should polish out easily if I was that worries? Any opinions?

Pics of nice clean, bored and decked block attached. Thats better than it was before!!

Cheers

Personally I agree with your Dad. You will find loads of people put slight scratches on them when they fit the cam as it is not the easiest of jobs, even when you stand the engine on it's end to put it in. Happy building

Re: Slight dink in new cam bearings...

hi andy
i'd agree its not too serious really can you get a finger nail to feel it? or is it just a mark ,either way the correct term is 'burnish' ie polish it out using something very blunt ie piece of rod layed flat etc
even if it is a little deeper there's gonna be loads of oil down there,
so alittle seepage isn't going to hurt in the 'grand scheme of things'

Re: Slight dink in new cam bearings...

Thanks guys, just thought Id double check. In fact the old man laughed and said "you will put more marks in it than that putting the cam in" so Tinka you were bang on.

Cheers

Re: Slight dink in new cam bearings...

Let the cam wear it smooth, don't prat about with polish etc. Cam bearings are really not an issue - we only change them because of the chemiclean, and just because we've changed everything else!
Our race TR engines run 'cam in block'...

Re: Slight dink in new cam bearings...

hi andy
as per last post ,hope your reasured there's no risk with putting it all back as is (i wouldn't condone using any 'polish' of any kind either) but burnishing is different altogether ,this merely rolls /smooths the soft bearing surface flat/smooth instead of you knocking any little bits off as you reinstall your cam.hope this clears up any other POLISHING concerns........
