Fine Tuning carb

If you have a very lumpy cam you dont have to live with a pig in traffic jams etc.

Spent an hour or so on the Idle Feed Restrictors and the car idles with a nice lope at around 800 RPM and I can set of on the clutch with no additional revs than tick over - astonishing. Need to check the changes over the whole range, but need the A/F Wideband I have ordered from the states to do this.

Couple of tips if you are interested.

1. Whist I would let the experts or have equipment available to mess with air bleeds, the IFR's have a dramatic affect on tickover and setting off etc so if you have a hairy cam they are worth looking at.

2. If you intend to use a hairy cam and are thinking about a carb - it is worth getting one that has the ability to have IFR's Air Bleeds etc changed. You can drill them etc in fixed units, but once drilled its more difficult to get them back.

3. You can now get a lambda lead that converts your dial or blinking light A/F gauge into a wide band which means you will be able to use it for tuning as it dosent just sense the highs and lows - could be worth thinking about

Another big tip if you prefer somebody with experience is that I spoke to Tim Adams who is in the club. Tim is one of few people that I have spoken to that has inspired confidence in me through his knowledge of tuning and it is through experience as he builds racing engines. Dont know how much he charges or how busy he is but a session on the rig with a performance engine could pay dividends.

We seem to be well served in the North and Midlands. Kenny Coleman in Castleford and Tim in the Stoke region.

Re: Fine Tuning carb

Hi
Have you got any contact info for Tim? I live in the Stoke area and I've been searching for someone to fine tune my new Ford 347 Stroker. It would be great if you could let me know. PM me if you like. Many thanks. Carl
