p-clips to mount wireloom in engine bay

From reading some threads I concluded that the loom in the engine bay can best be mounted just on the underside of the bonnet rim (not sure how to call this) using P-clips.

However to do this I need to drill several holes and use bolts to secure the p-clips on the underside. Will the ss counter sunk bolts look ok after painting? Or is there even a better way to secure the p-clips

A picture would be helpful

Thanks

Im using sticky backed pads (which need gluing really) which you can thread cable ties through so they can be stuck up behind the lip hidden away...no messy nuts and bolts

Also used the sticky back clips with plastic tie wraps. To give better strength I used a hot glue gun to add some extra "sticky". No holes drilled and can locate in some blind areas where you cannot go with a drill.

Re: p-clips to mount wireloom in engine bay

Hmmmm...

Not convinced regarding self adhesive cable clips. From experience of Electronic Installations over a good part of the world I think they are a menace as they seem to come unstuck in the heat and with time particularly if there is any weight or slight strain on them. In the heat of an engine bay I personally wouldn't trust them at all. Removing the sticky pad and using an alternative adhesive might also prove problematic. Cable clips are often made of Nylon or polypropelene. Most Plastics that have a waxy appearance are usually a problem to stick succesfully.

Not knowing much about the DAX, if it were possible I would think about bonding some fixings if they don't show with some resin and glass matting. A company called "Big Head Fasteners" do a range of fixings that can be bonded and may be useful. JMHO

Re: p-clips to mount wireloom in engine bay

I used sticky pad cable clips in just two places to attach wiring . One near the headlights and one up under the dashboard.

Both were areas where is wasn't possible to drill and bolt as they were on the back of visible bodywork

Both came off, even with epoxy and/or superglue, and needed re-doing. Best to stick with rivnuts/pclips/rivets/bolts etc.

Re: p-clips to mount wireloom in engine bay

I used cable tie bases just like the RS Component one, part No. 227-996

Mine were left over from some other job though and didn't have the self adhesive pads.
I used Wurth adhesive to attach them to the underside of the body. I havent had one come off yet but I hell of a job getting one off when I stuck it in the wrong place!

Craig.

I used some large headed metric roofing bolts, to which i secured with fibreglass sheet. Stuck like the preverbial s#### to a blanket. I secured p-clips to the bolts with ordinary nus/spring washers.

Re: p-clips to mount wireloom in engine bay

Spent last Saturday at SVA test centre where the examiner said sticky cable ties bases inside car OK, outside not. Unless they had a self tapper through them as well as the sticky pad. Seems to me a P clip would be easier.Ian
