Dax with Rover V8 Lump

Just a quick question to you gents who have experience of fitting a v8 rover lump into a dax.

Is there enough clearance when the engine is installed with all the shiney bulkhead and wing liners for the oil filter or do you need a remote oil filter?

I have an oil cooler and take off ready to install but had concerns as to wether the oil filter catches on anything in its standard form.

If it does then I may as well go remote now before engine installation.

Thanks in anticipation, I havent asked a dopey question for a while and decided to continue in the standard style.

Many thanks

Marklieboy

Re: Dax with Rover V8 Lump

Hi Markieboy,

Ive fitted mine with the standard filter and havent had any problems in that respect, in fact the engine looks tiny in the engine bay.

What I have a little clearance issue with is the exhaust manifolds being a little near the foot wells, I fabricated my own trying to keep as tight as possible to the block but stick a little near for my tastes. What it looks like to me in my case is that my engine is too far back, but everything fits and the mounts were fitted at factory so I assume its correct..

Another thing that I didnt realise initially is that if your useing a lt77 box then you will need a shortend gearstick duufer (dunno what they are called..)

Anyway good luck

Ben

Hi Ben

You are correct, a mate of mine had a Rover fitted in a DAX and it was so far back that there was room in front to fit a suitcase. :thumb:

I think you will find most kits mount the engines a long way back relatively. In my Python it is about as far back as it will go (clearanc between the footwells and the rear most header is very tight and changing spark plugs is a bitch of a job) but in front I could also fit a suitcase between teh engine and radiator.

Re: Dax with Rover V8 Lump

Gents,

Thank you for your help regarding this, again I appreciate the help.

Ben it concerns me about the clearance issues on the footwells as I have used the dax liners. I dont think really that fitting the exhausts is going to be straight forward . I have the Dax liners and dax exhaust so I was hoping that they would have built in some tolerance, either that or warned that they would not fit and therefore no purchase. All this will become clear soon when I fit the engine!
I have the shortened gearbox duffa thing from a bt sherpa, but i dont have a gearstick, It also throws it accross dramatically to the right so I may need to make a new gearstick holding bracket.

As with the room in the front for the suitcase that is great news. Means more room for the nitrous bottles in the boot!!!!
