TKO II oil change

How often do you need to change the oil in the gearbox ?? I've read GM synchromesh is the preferred choice for the TKO II.

Also, same question re clutch and powerlock jag diff ?? Should this be done as part of routine yearly service ?

Cheers in advance from 'turn key' Rob :thumb:

Re: TKO II oil change

Hello Rob.... across the pond here the Tremec guru's suggest 100% synthetic oil be used in TKO trans.. such as Royal Purple or Red-Line synthetic trans fluid be used after 5000 or so miles put on trans. Our customers report much smoother shifts & low noise operation of trans. Change trans oil every 2 years
is a safe time period.. @ average miles per year 3000 to 4000 or so.
Cheers! Dr,Dee

Your facetious reply is unnecessary JIMBO, apologies for not chosing my words more apprpriately, fluid then ?! My fault entirely. :finger:

I have upgraded to AP 600 racing brake fluid for my new braking system as the 5.1 was overheating on the track, would it be worth changing the clutch fluid also.

What fluid are people using in the powerlock diff. I know Andy B had a cooler for his diff in the racer, does anyone else have a similar application ?

Cheers

Official bhp figures not ready yet but fear not its gonna be >480, revs upto 6700 !!!!!!

Re: TKO II oil change

Rob,

It's worth changing the clutch fluid to the same as the brakes...if only to save a potential mix up in fluids!

Rgds

Re: TKO II oil change

Rob - in all seriousness, if your Dot 5.1 fluid was overheating on the track, then you should be looking to arrange for more cooling air over the discs/calipers.

I am not sure of the spec of the AP600 fluid you mention, but if it is a silicon fluid, then it is more suited to race cars than road cars.

Re: TKO II oil change

OK, I'll ask, how do you know if you've got brake fade (pads) or fluid boil? is there a difference in feel?

Re: TKO II oil change

Front + rear nearside bearings collapsed at Spa, which destroyed the hub and marked the disc rendering it useless:angry: .

AP600 is a racing fluid but from what i understand, its hyperviscosity properties means it will need to be changed more frequently but works better at higher temps.

Looking to get some ducting sorted from the front louvres which are just decorative at the moment to reduce the temperature in the front brakes.

As for the feel of the brakes at high temp; situation was compounded by a mushy old master cylinder and progressive wheel wobble as the bearings became more warped.

Its safe to say replacing the master cylinder with front and rears and using racing fluid may be overkill but with the engine upgrade and my heavy right foot i thought it prudent :thumb:
