Pre SVA testing

I am getting to the point where I will need to book SVA soon. I was thinking about how to get the car ready - for instance bedding the brakes etc.

I don't want to drive it on the roads until I'm certain that all is well and everything is ready for the test. Is there a place I can take the car to test drive it off public roads? Surrey Area?

How do other people do this? Do you just use the drive to the SVA centre to bed everything in?

Thanks

Re: Pre SVA testing

Nick.

Book yourself a pre-sva mot. so long as your insured you can drive there and back, just take it steady .

If you can get one around 20 miles away it`ll give it a nice little run out.:thumb:

Re: Pre SVA testing

My insurance gave me a 10 day temporary cover period. In this time, I managed to do one MOT, an SVA test and retest. It is not written anywhere that you have to book an MOT close to your house, or take the shortest possible route there...

...I live near Gatwick and booked mine in Uckfield...

...I also got "lost" on the way back and had to drive for miles until I found home again...

Re: Pre SVA testing

Same thing happened on the way back from SVA... I must have looked down every backlane in Sussex before I found Gatwick... you would've thought I know my way around by now...

You're too used to seeing all these roads from 10,000 feet!

Re: Pre SVA testing

I did exactly the same and booked an MOT before SVA, make sure you leave something very minor so that it will fail (mine was windscreen wipers) that way you get to take it out twice....:thumb:

Secondly it may be the only chance you get to blast passed a fixed speed camera

regards
Garry

Re: Pre SVA testing

Garry what a brilliant idea!! I am of course very law abiding and sensible. Now if I could just plan a route to the MOT shop via every fixed camera site in Surrey!!

Tempting........... Very tempting

But knowing my luck they would find a way to trace the nutter in the red Dax with no number plates...... After all this is a Stalinist Government isn't it!!

Oh well

Thanks for the suggestions

Re: Pre SVA testing

One thing i'm sure you've already thought of.

Take it VERY slowly and leave LOTS of braking space as your brakes'll be worth bugger all for the first few attempts.

Don't want to do anything silly lilke drive it into a wall and chip the nosecone or anything do we :thumb:
