Front Indicators and SVA

As my front indicators are about 2inches short of the min height restriction for SVA, I will need to add a pair of stalk type indicators to pass - Or so I've been told?

2 Questions then.

Do I have to remove the 'proper' indicators and blank off the hole to pass?

Has anyone got a pair of stalks they don't want and will sell to me?

Cheers

Re: Front Indicators and SVA

There is an easier way. Get some of the black paint that is removable and spray the bottom half of the indicator lens. Adjust your ride height so that the height of the indicators comply.

The above is a Dave Brooks innovation and a bloody good one at that. All you need is one of his hard tops now to add the icing.

Re: Front Indicators and SVA

Can you wind the front suspension up? I think if you are going the spray route, you have to paint the inside of the lens, but check with Dave Brookes first...

Re: Front Indicators and SVA

I painted both inside and outside on my "SVA lenses". The light is quite intense and needs lots of paint coverage to ensure a full "Black out".

Re: Front Indicators and SVA

You could use aluminium duct tape on the inside - that is completely lightproof

Brilliant! That will teach them to come up with stupid rules! What on earth does it really matter if your lights are in inch lower than normal? I guess they may be blocked from view by a crashed cyclist laying on the ground!

Re: Front Indicators and SVA

Sorry haven't bought the SVA regs yet, what is the minimum height for the indicators anyway?

I gather from the posts you can wind the suspension up so far but not enough to make the whole light legal, hence you have to blank half of the lens???? This is aceptable to SVA??

Re: Front Indicators and SVA

350mm to the bottom of the viewable (Illuminated) lense.
You may be able to wind the suspension up far enough, just remember to allow for settlement of the suspension on the way to the SVA test.....Caught me out aonc or twice...............................before i started painting lenses.

Re: Front Indicators and SVA

Adjusting the ride hieght should get you through SVA, but remember the measurement is taken when the driver is seated in the car, which does lower it again. Mine was 5mm to low, dont you just love the SVA men:whatever:

Re: Front Indicators and SVA

Hi,

My SVA is on Friday 20th Jan, Dave offered me a set of blacked out lenses on Saturday when Lee and myself visited his workshop. Thanks for the offer Dave I should have said yes, as since I checked the front indicator height a few weeks ago the car has settled further.

Still doesn't take to long to swap the indicators, I had 488's on the front as well as rear. I have allowed a further 10 mm clearance in case the car settles further after the run to Chadderton test center. Better take a C spanner just in case.!

In anyone really needs a set of Dax SVA Indicators, I have set available unused as I have not fitted the nudge bars for the test. I will let them go at half Dax price if anyone needs them, whatever that is as I dont really want know how much money I wasted on them.

I also should have checked the SVA manual before fitting the rear foglight on a bracket from the Fuekl tank strap bolt. The foglight is below the bodywork and is therefore to low (below 250 mm at the bottom edge) for SVA.....bugger.

Regards
Chris
