Steering column and SVA

My Ram rolling chassis came with the recommended Escort (mk1??) non collapsable steering column. Thunder Road suggested fitting a collapsable steering wheel boss for SVA. Although that may work I can't imagine its a pretty option.
Anyway, is it possible to cut down or shorten say a sierra column or are there any known adjustable ones, or does anyone know a company who could make a custom collapsable one?

Also, how long is a sierra one, max and min? It would be great if somone could answer that one!
Cheers

Re: Steering column and SVA

I don't know the exact wording of the SVA rules for steering columns but the equivalent here in NZ accepted the RAM set-up as collapsible anyway because there is an intermediate shaft and an offset between the column and the rack. In a frontal impact, the intermediate shaft folds rather than allowing the force to be transmitted straight up the column.

And my understanding is that that logic would work for UK SVA also.

Re: Steering column and SVA

Cheers gents, I'll get that great white book out and see if it is clear! I am resigned to treating the SVA to a two part test anyway so a colapsable boss can be back up.
