NPT thread measuring..how?

Hi guys,

am I going about it right by just measuring the width of the shaft at the top of the threads for NPT type of thread?

Cheers guys,

sorted now, it was as Rich said in an earlier post a 1/8" NPT which OD is about 3/8", bit of a conusing naming convention for us lower mortals I feel, all better now though
