| Bonnet/Boot gas struts Hi Guys, Can someone confirm the length of the gas struts used on the AK or DAX. Closed length and fully extended length please. Radiospares are selling pairs at around £50. I seem to remember in a thread a couple of years ago that someone warned about the possibility of cracking the glassfibre due to the force needed to close them. Has anyone had any bad experience through the use of gas struts?

| Re: Bonnet/Boot gas struts Buy them from Dax, they do a nice kit etc with all the brackets to do the job!

| Re: Bonnet/Boot gas struts Forgot to mention Dax supply a strut installation kit. I've attached a couple of pics of the brackets for the boot. The ones for the bonnet are the same. I haven't installed the bonnet struts yet.

| Re: Bonnet/Boot gas struts Thanks guys. Just had a look at the DAX site and the prices are extremely good at around £38 per pair for the bonnet version. What are the differences between bonnet and boot versions? Does anyone have any pics of the DAX mounting plates and could they be made to fit a GD

| Re: Bonnet/Boot gas struts Hi Bogster, You anticipated my next question. From what I can see they would be OK for my GD. How did you attach the lid brackets to the fibreglass?

| Re: Bonnet/Boot gas struts Hi Richardd, I used self tapping stainless screws on the lid brackets. Work a treat! I don't normally like to use self tappers but on this occasion I felt it was just about the only way. They come with the strut installation kit from Dax. When you order the struts be aware the strut installation kit is separate. Bonnet struts are £38 a pair Bonnet strut fitting kit is £19.40 Boot struts are £34.60 a pair Boot strut fitting kit is £19.40 A total of £111.40 + Vat = £130.90

| Re: Bonnet/Boot gas struts Fixing the brackets to the body flanges seems straightforward enough with stainless screws and nuts. It's the one's in the bonnet and boot lid which are the problem. Is it possible to use M5 nutserts in glassfibre or does it just breakout when you try and fit them. Not really sure what thickness the GRP is on the bonnet and boot lid in this area? I guess you could use some GRP resin bonder when you put the nutserts in to give some more support. Any thoughts???
