help with setup cooling system

I'm not sure if my current cooling system is the right setup (see picture). When the engine get's hot I loose a lot of fluid through the radiator cap which is located on the inline filler. COuld be caused by trapped air but also by wrong setup

My question is: should I move the rad cap from the inline filler (not the highest point) to the top of the expansion cylinder? IN that case when there's a pressure release through the rad cap it will blow out air instead of fluids (which is the case in the current setup).

Advice is appreciated.

ps if the expansion cylinder is indeed the best place for a radiator cap, anyone got suggestions for stainless rad neck to be welded onto the cylinder?

Re: help with setup cooling system

Looks right, but don't put a rad cap on the inline filler neck, otherwise water won't flow to the expansion bottle. Use a flat blanking cap on the filler neck and use the rad cap on the expansion bottle.

Re: help with setup cooling system

Hi all, first for me.
Agree with moving the rad cap to the expansion tank, but said tank needs to be linked to a high point on the rad or engine,or both, to allow air to be collected. Not the bottom hose as shown. Had same problem when I had a RV8 in the Dax.
Have fun.

Hi,

Drawing is maybe not very accurate but the tank is linked with highest point, being the inline filler.

Thanks
