Sd1 gearbox remote

Hello all,
I am just getting my box ready for joining to the engine, hoping to get it in tomorrow,
Looking at the remote extension from above it does not come back in a straight line the gearlever goes off towards the drivers side. There are two bolts on the top securing it to the box the left one has two extra washers fitted and the right one was done up more.
Having never seen another box my question is,is this right, does this put the gear lever in the correct place in a SD1 car?.What have other people done for their sumos
Many thanks in advance
Steve

Steve

When I built my Sumo, the remote was square on to the gearbox and sat right in the centre of the Sumo tunnel, sounds like yours has been bodged at some time.

Sounds like the rubbers need replacing as mine did (see pic). they are only £1-2 each and easy to do. Once done the remote is straight and as the factory intended.
I still need to bend my gear lever but otherwise my gearstick fits in the hole

Re: Sd1 gearbox remote

Hi, if the remote is short and kicks over to the drivers side it could well be a sherpa remote. Mine leans over to the drivers side and thats off of a sherpa.
If you send me a pic if possible i will see if its the same as mine. emails markhunter@suffolkonline.net

Off to bed now so will check this in the morning

Re: Sd1 gearbox remote

Hello,
Bit late getting back, went back in the garage
I thought it didn"nt look right,Thanks very much for all the replies.I will remove the offending washers and square it up.I don"nt understand why they were on there unless the box has been in some other car and had to be repositioned.
Re the length it is SD1,it is not short as in your pics Robinj66 thanks for those though
One other question the nylon plunger doesn"t stick out much it seems like the spring is weak or something, any ideas?
One more question!! for the clutch cable mod what do you use to secure the cable nipple on the bellhousing
So thats it ready, if you saw my post on the release bearing problem I am frustrated now waiting for the carrier then bolt the gearbox on
I have someone coming over sunday morning bringing a hoist(cheers graham) and in it all goes, fingers crossed!
cheers
Steve

Re: Sd1 gearbox remote

To hold my nipple in place (stop sniggering at the back....) i used two small washers, cut a slot in each then inserted them onto the cable outside the bellhousing and turned the slots 180 degrees apart, that way the nipple catches on the washers. i then silicon'd the back of the bellhousing over the washers and nipple to keep it solid while i fitted everything else. Hope this makes sense

Re: Sd1 gearbox remote

Steve
I wasadvised to use a small bracket to hold the nipple - the bracket is then attached to the bellhousing with a self-tapper.
You may think that the plastic plunger does not protude far but wait till you try to get the ball back in the socket - especially if younicely grease everything first

GOOD LUCK
