Clarke Brake flaring tool

I have bought one of those Clarke kits in a plastic box, with a pipe cutting tool, a pipe clamp and the flaring tool and bits.

Question is ( there are no instructions) how much pipe do you have proud of the clamp to make the best ends?

I just experimented and it seems quite critical for the best end.

Anyone with this tool will understand the question, otherwise it will appear like nonsense.

Thanks

Re: Clarke Brake flaring tool

Hi David

Not used one of the kits you have....but I would have thought they are all much the same...i would guess about 6mm ..1/4" protrusion would be ample...why dont you use a small offcut of pipe to make a few practice ends first to see how they fit!!

Hope this helps..Steve

Re: Clarke Brake flaring tool

when you put the flare on the pipe there is a disk with a pin on it to stop the pipe bore closing when you squeeze it all, you have the same amount of brake pipe sticking through as the thickness of the appropriate disk for the pipe. Hope that makes sense
