Which carb is best for me?

I'm in the last throws of deciding who to get to build my 383 stroker. One thing I haven't investigated to any great length is which carb to go for. The motor will be about 400bhp and 430ft/lbs.

The main thing for me is I want a carb that will be user friendly. I don't want to be pratting about tuning things all the time. I want it setup by the engine builder and then leave well alone unless I really have to. I've read various things saying Edelbrock carbs are easy to own, Holleys are easier to tune, Barry Grant's are the muts nuts etc. etc.

I don't want to start a thread about which is better for x y z technical reason. I want something that will cause me the least grief possible yet still deliver a good performance. The car will be used mostly on the road with the occasional track day now and again. Even on the track I wont be thrashing the nuts of it.

Any of you knowledgable sorts have a view on the best way for me to go?

Well I have the barry grant mighty demon, and has produced great results! Once set thats it! A 650 cfm mech secondrays will be plenty for your motor!

Re: Which carb is best for me?

I had an Edelbrock which as everyone will tell you works straight out of the box, BUT it does need to be put on a rolling road to set it up properly and after this mine ran spot on. Thing was the next year it was not quite so spot on and the year after that it really needed setting up again. Think if money is not the issue Barry grants is the one to go for I have heard some really good things about it.

Yes I agree with Tinka, they are great out of the box,but they have needles and jets that wear out!

If you are not on a radical cam I would go for the Barry Grant Speed Demon with Vac Secondary. Its a beautifully engineered thing. Closest thing on the Holley line is the HP, but I think the BG is better.

If you go with Ray, leave it to him to choose all the bits for your choice of engine, he knows his stuff.

Mike - what size Speed Demon would you reckon would be sensible for a 383 400bhp/430ftlbs?
