Mcleod Slave Cylinder Bracket

Hi,

Just finished making my slave cylinder bracket. I've got a 7/8" Mcleod slave cylinder and TK0 500 scattershield. No one had a bracket to fit it anywhere so I've had to make it. Glad I bought the welder now!

The side of the scattershield had a bracket mount which I have used. A bit tricky as the bracket had to be offset to run flush with the slave cylinder. It's well clear of the exhaust manifold pipe and inset from the chassis rail. Just have to drop it into the powder coating chap to finish it off.

A productive evening at last!

If anyone is planning for a similar gearbox/scattershield setup then I'll be glad to give you the dimensions for the bracket. I've attached a couple of pictures.

Re: Mcleod Slave Cylinder Bracket

Nice job, you could also ues the threaded holes in the block.

Re: Mcleod Slave Cylinder Bracket

Thanks Mike

I wanted to keep well clear of that area as I wasn't sure if the rear header pipe might clash with the bracket. I've used 5mm steel for rigidity so the bracket is solid.

Re: Mcleod Slave Cylinder Bracket

Hi Bogster,

That slave cylinder looks like one of CNC. Exact the same shape and fittings are included. Watch out for that 90 fitting, the material is soo soft, while screwing in an adapter, the complete fitting was split into 2 pieces before I noticed. (this is holding me up at the moment)

Watch out for heat or try to make a heatshield for the slave cylinder. A friend of mine is going to make a shield because he has problems with the heat here.

Strange indeed, everybody needs to make it's own bracket but it is a rewarding activity

Regards,
Andy

Re: Mcleod Slave Cylinder Bracket

Skorpion,

Can you tell me what type of fitting that 90 degree elbow is coming out of the slave cylinder? Who do you think makes it?

thanks

Re: Mcleod Slave Cylinder Bracket

Hi Bogster,
I mean with that elbow actually the thing which sits at the bottom rear of the slave cylinder on your slave-cylinder-bracket-1.jpg

Look at attachment....
I have no idea who really makes them...

You could also considered the wilwood slave cylinder which is a pull type with a long stroke.

Regards,
Andy

Re: Mcleod Slave Cylinder Bracket

Andy,

why would I want a pull type slave cylinder when I've just spent an evening making a bracket for a push type slave cylinder? I'm content with the slave cylinder I've got, thanks anyway.

I was only asking if you knew what type of brass fitting that elbow was. It has a convex profile at the bottom of the 3/8" UNF internal thread. It seems as though it is designed to mate with a bolt that has a concave end.

Re: Mcleod Slave Cylinder Bracket

Take the brass one round to any industrial hydraulics company and get a steel one, most hydraulics suppliers will be able to match it up for you.
If it was me, I'd then chuck the brass job in the bin!!
Looking good!
Steve

Re: Mcleod Slave Cylinder Bracket

Hi Bogster,

about the pull type...was just in case your current setup hasn't enough stroke or you want to change the slave because the clutch is too heavy.
Because you made the slave on the end of the fork, I think you need a lot of stroke and/or the clutch is heavy.
What is your master cylinder bore & stroke ?
What is the length of the fork at the clutch (at which length does it pivot) ?
With this I can estimate/calculate the pedalforce needed...
Regards,
Andy

Re: Mcleod Slave Cylinder Bracket

Good work Bogster!

I spent a day last week fabricating a bracket to weld to my Lakewood scattershield. The slave cylinder pushes from the engine side. Dropped the engine/trans in yesterday-bugger! - the slave cylinder hits the chasis rail. So now I will need a puller slave from the transmission side (where there is loads of room). Oh well, you live and learn!
