Jag Front End Springs

Hi Guys,

Just to let you know I have "dropped my cherry" with regards to cutting throught the original jag suspension front end springs & am pleased to tell you I didnt suffer any damage to person or property!!
As I dont have oxy-acetylene cutting gear I very carefully cut halfway through each spring with a grinderette while wearing adequte levels of person protective equipment, I then give each spring a firm tw*ting with a 7lb persuader & hey presto spring tension no more!
I do not endorse this highly technical method but it seemed to be the safest & most effective!!

Regards,
Martyn

It worked for me that way, but like you say a "little" dangerous.
Just make sure ALL the compression is gone before going any further. I seem to remember I had to cut one of my springs twice as it caught up and didn`t fully relax the pressure.

You don`t have to be mental to build a kitcar - but it definitely helps.

Re: Jag Front End Springs

The scrappies do the gas-axe thing for the fun of it I think. A much more controlled way is to make yourself a compressor with a length of 12mm studding a few nuts and a couple of large washers or larger metal plates with holes in. You can then put this through the middle of the spring as per the Jag tool and then release it all down in a controlled way. I welded one nut to the end of the stud bar so I could even wind it in and out with the air-driven wrench.

I agree with Paul. When you take the bottom shock plate off still take care. Mine were cut through in two places with a gas axe and still went off with one hell of a bang when I took the shock plate off -nearly followed through!!!

I didn't even realise they were under tension..........................frightened the living daylights out of me!!!

Shattered the cutting disc on the grinder and slammed into the garage door!!!

I still don`t have full use of my ring finger on my right hand (after 18months) from stripping the jag. It wasn`t from the springs though - that`s another story

I don't have full use of my ring finger since the ring went on it!!! It will no longer reach in my wallet as there is nothing in there anymore and it wont work the remote control as that is no longer in my possesion!

Guess that's life, you're probably at less risk with a gas axe and a coiled spring rather than taking on a mother in law!
