Re: Thats broken it!!! HELP

I think that I am repeating what has been said already to an extent - be very careful with easiouts - I have tried using them (high quality and expensive ones) on about three occassions each time - despite doing everything by the book, drilling, heating, etc, I have had no luck and snapped them off - fortunately on two occassions there was just enough left to chisel the easiout round the wrong way to free it - the thrid fortunately was on a small part and I ended up getting another.

The easiest way, as has been said is to take the manifold off and see if there is a bit sticking up - in my limited experience, there usually is, and even if not enough to get grips on, you can always use a fine chisel on the bit that is left to very gently loosen it and then a pair of pliers will do it - surprising how easy this is with a little care and patience.

An alternative - and you have to be VERY careful with this is to drill out the remains to tapping size and retap the hole - you have to drill dead centre of the hole, then pick with a very fine screwdriver the first few threads away (sometimes you can get the whole lot - but it is unusual), and then, using a taper tap, retap the hole, clearing the swarf as you go. I am not however sure I would be brave enough to attempt this in such an important spot.

Best of luck with that - but try option 1 first - u may be pleasantly surprised. Fingers crossed

Jon

Re: Thats broken it!!! Now its Fixed!!

Hi
Well after removing the manifold the stud came out with just a set of pliers,to say I was pleased would be an understatement.
Manifold is now back on,carb fitted and starting to plumb in
So the car cover will stay off for a while yet!!
Cheers for all the replies
Steve
