Sump gasket installation question..

Going for sump installation tonight and I have a question regarding my gasket.
Im using an Ultraseal one piece gasket and the instructions say to use Mr Gasket Pro Tack super adhesive sealant to "secure gasket placement during installation".

I guess this means put sealant on the block to hold the gasket in place whilst securing the bolts?

Do you think I can use Permatex black for this?

Any ideas welcome! - Cheers

If Permatex is black RTV then it should be fine.

Re: Sump gasket installation question..

Be careful when using any type of gasket sealant. Below is a picture of a V6 which had a new oil pump approx 3000 miles ago. the strainer wa clogged resulting in low oil pressure at idle.

Been advised to "secure" a sump gasket with grease in future

Re: Sump gasket installation question..

Umm, not such a good situation that! Ive only used a thin skin of sealant and done squeezed out from under the gasket when it was compressed so hopefully all will be well.

Cheers

Re: Sump gasket installation question..

Argh

Take that absorbant coth out straight away. Always use lint free and certainly not those Vileda things for anything other than mopping your weetabix up. They leave strands behind . If you want to bung a hole the fully absorbant paper reinforced towells are good.

Engine loks great by the way and its nice to see somebody practicing on something before they build a Chevy.

Only kidding - nice one
Mike
