securing brake pipes

Just been going over my rolling chassis from dax and i have noticed that the rear brake lines have been cable tied into place (see pic), My question is is this ok for sva or should i replace the cable ties with the correct pipe clips.

I would have thought that having the pipes hard up against the chassis like this would encourge chaffing over time.

Thanks

Russ

:drive: I would clip them for peice of mind m8. I would be surprised if that was ok for SVA.

Re: securing brake pipes

Id use the proper fixings too. Easier to do it now than later. Besides which if your asking your obviously not sure so just do it you know it makes sense!!

Re: securing brake pipes

OK, i'll change them, but surely if you have a rolling chassis built by a manufacturer it should be to sva standard, thats why i questioned it.

Re: securing brake pipes

Russ hi.
Clip these pipes. Cable ties fail sooner or later and it may be too late if the brake pipes get caught up and damaged.

These are the most important part of your car!! Total brake failure is not a nice experience. Been there with a faulty new master cylinder.

Re: securing brake pipes

Hi ya,

It probably would pass the sva but I am not a lover of cable ties unless absolutely neccessary.

Dax do know what they are doing so if your happy with it go with it, it may just be us bunch of loons who cross the t's and dot the i's.

Good luck with your build whatever you decide.

Regards

Markieboy

Re: securing brake pipes

No getting around it.... It's cheap and nasty. Dax should no better. This is the most important part of your car and I can't believe they aren't using proper fixings. I'm glad I built my own rolling chassis. If I were you I would remove them and fix the pipework properly. Through time the ties will loosen and the pipe will vibrate at minimum or worst case get caught up in something and fail.

If I were you I would replace with P clips to ensure the pipework is secure.

Re: securing brake pipes

Everyone calm down.
Cable ties in that location are fine. and are used by major manufacturers at times. Those pipes are secured at each end by the correct and secure brackets and if the cable ties did fail the pipe would not move.
Cable ties only fail if they are over stressed and or are cheap cr4p (Which I include Hellerman).

Re: securing brake pipes

Sorry Dave,

Greatest respect for you but have to disagree.

If I went to pick up my Dax rolling chassis and the pipework had been cable tied I would have blown a gasket. Sure they might hold for a while but eventually they will loosen. But apart from that it looks like cr*p.

Stands off soapbox.
