| Re: Fuel pump / filter prob I forgot to mention that the inlet to the petrol pump is approx 13mm in diameter.

| Re: Fuel pump / filter prob Kev I am putting twin filters in the lines from the tank to the swirl pot. Poss getting filter kings. This will mean any fuel getting into the injection loop (feed/return) will be filtered. How ever i have just found a BMW 535 fuel filter so may use that post pump. Or i may go the whol hog and use all of em.. or if you want the BM one pm me and i'll send it up. I have the Bosch pump suggested for the landy and it perform very well. However you need to ensure it is either primed or gravity fed to ensure proper operation. But there is a magnitude of suction so can self prime but not recommended. HTH

| Re: Fuel pump / filter prob After burning out two of the external Bosch beauties at nearly £100 a pop I now always put a swirl pot into the fuel tank itself and suspend a pump in the fuel thereby ensuring no fuel starvation and a cool, long running pump. BMW do a nice line in "in tank" swirl pots and pumps and are readily available in scrappies. The fuel pressure regulator in the fuel rail should keep the fuel at the right pressure so don't be too worried abot the model of car you rob the pump off, just make sure its over 3 ltr and bobs your uncle. The Lexus donors I've used have a nice ECU that uses speed sensors in the gearbox to step down the voltage to the fuel pump from 12v to 9v at cruise or low fuelling requirements thereby ensuring that the pump noise is kept to a minimum and the pump lasts forever.......a nice trick for a luxury silent executive barge however I think I may throw this bit of electronic wizardry away as I can't hear the fuel pump at idle anyway... I also put a filter just above the fuel outlet in the tank (ie as close after the pump as possible) and I use the metal canister jobs from Cooper, my favourite atm is the Cooper FIG 7004 which is perfect for anything up to 5 ltr and only costs just over £7.... Carbs, who needs 'em, they are just a badly controlled fuel leak after all......... Cheers, Tony:thumb:

| Re: Fuel pump / filter prob Hi Kev, Yes you need a filter between the tank outlet and the pump inlet. I used a fram but any 10 micron filter with a flow rating equal to or greater than that of the pump would do.

| Re: Fuel pump / filter prob Thanks Dean/Tony/Paul. Any idea of a supplier where i can get a filter that will fit in a 13mm or 16mm fuel line? The tank is manufactured and fitted, so it will be a right s#d to fit an internal swirl pot. Are there any pots that i could fit beneath the tank as a 'retro fit'. Which car uses an external pump that i could use, bearing in mind i want to supercharge the beast 1 day, so i am looking for a higher flow rate at this stage to compensate for later. I don't actually have a regulator fitted, so what price/supplier am i looking at for one? Thanks for all the help so far. Kevin

| Re: Fuel pump / filter prob Kev, surly there should be a pressure regulator on the fuel rail itself. As far as I understand it the only purpose of a swirl pot is to make sure the pump does not run dry ( these high pressure pumps burn out a lot easier than normal ones ) when there is not much fuel in the tank and you are cornering of going up or down a hill exposing the pickup, the swirling action in the swirl pot helps to hold fuel in there and as such keep the pickup of the pump continually submerged in fuel. If this is the case a small tank below the main one gravity fed should do the trick, but I would make sure the return goes to the small tank.:thumb: :thumb:

| Re: Fuel pump / filter prob Thanks Martin The fuel system was a self designed cut/shut. THe fuel pump is from an XR4i which feeds into a large cylindrical thing (if it is a regulator, it is not adjustable), it then feeds into the original granada large fuel filter, then into the 8mm fuel rails. The are a couple of flying saucer shaped metal objects near the injectors (one in the feed and one in the return fuel lines). I was told these are valves of some sort. Where can you suggest getting a shallowish swirl pot from, as all this will have to hang beneath the main tank. Is it poss to get a swirl tank with an internal pump? Cheers Kevin

| Re: Fuel pump / filter prob Kev, You could try Allyfab in chesterfield, they do alot for the kitcar market. |

| Re: Fuel pump / filter prob Thanks Rich I have emailed allisport who originally made my tank, to see what they can do. Apparently any autofactor will sell me a low pressure filter to fit between the tank and pump. So we are off to local shop on Monday to see what they can offer. I'm still unsure as to whether i need a fuel regulator. I can't remember seeing one on the original granada. I have got a terrible memory tho. I still have to find another pump yet tho, enough for 350BHP into a 3 litre engine. Any offers as to what lph that equates to? Cheers Kevin
