Dizzy Heights

I have a 351c in my Ram. I want to change my Mallory dual point vac. adv. to electronic. I'm limited to just eight and a half inches from the block to the top of the cap (including coil lead). Is there anybody out there using one in a Cleveland that fits this dimension? If so, what make, model number, etc. etc.

Re: Dizzy Heights

There is an electronic conversion kit which is a lot cheaper way of doing it and means you just change the innards of your distributor. Loom on the Mallory site for details. HTH

Re: Dizzy Heights

I've been told by a couple of suppliers that the conversion kits are for mechanical advance only, and there isn't one for vacuum advance. Is this true?

Re: Dizzy Heights

This is probably not the correct one for your application but does clearly state Vacuum and Mechanical. Who ever told you that was trying to sell you something more expensive I think.

Re: Dizzy Heights

Thanks for the info Martin.
However I'd still like to know if anyone is using other makes of distributor in their Cleveland where height is a restriction.

Re: Dizzy Heights

Blip - you can run without vac advance if you want. You won't notice much if any difference. You might put a litle more initial advance on it, and limit the mech advance by the same amount so that total remains the same.

How much more initial advance you can get away with will be experimentation until it kicks back when trying to start it hot.

FYI, the MSD mag trigger dizzy on my Windsor measures 9" from block to tip of HT connections.

Re: Dizzy Heights

Thanks Wilf,
unfortunately that's a half inch too high for me.
I'm not too bothered about type of advance. It's doing away with points that i'm more interested in. Plus, getting a dizzy that'll fit under my bonnet.

Re: Dizzy Heights

Just to be 100% clear, my 9" includes the actual HT leads with 90 degree connections.
