Here's a few pics of them fitted in my AK. Not sure how this relates to your Sumo but it may help you. The striker plate is fitted to a piece of steel which is in turn bonded into the door pillar which bits of wood and P38/P40 filler for strength.

No worries Ian - I prefer Glenmorangie 18 year old, port wood finish if possible

On a serious note - The AK door pillar is hollow too until you bung it full of bits of wood, various tins of body filler and a piece of steel. The AK door is very solid however and has a piece of steel bonded into it to bolt the latch mechanism too.

One of the sumo lads must have done this before surely, they'll be along shortly no doubt. Good luck with it

Your right Ian

There is a stainless plate bonded to the underside of the door pillar in the wheel arch area. The stainless plate under the catch was an addition by me to spread the load and cover up the slot I made to allow small amounts of adjustment.

The door trim is cut around the catch. On the inside of the door is a square steel plate with 4 holes tapped to line up with the 4 mounting holes in the catch. This was bonded into place so the catch can be removed without fiddling about inside the door.

Craig.

Craig,

Sorry - I forgot, with the changeover of the forum to thank you for putting these pictures up about the locks and this thread has just reminded me. Makes it clear how I'm going to do it.

Is the plate ready bonded into the wheel arch or was that another addition that you made?

Cheers,

Jon

Hi Jon

The plate in the wheel arch was an addition by me. I used 3mm stainless steel and stuck it in place with some wurth adhesive.

Craig.
