Front Hub grease cap vent hole question.

Now trying to put the front hub grease caps on, Jag manual says makes sure the vent holes are clear, my caps have no vent holes. Caps dont really want to go on as theres no where for the air to go! Get so far on and then stop, if I tap lightly backwards it pops off under pressure.

Should I drill a small vent hole in the new caps?

Cheers

PS I like wireless internet, dont have to go down to the house now, can post from the garage!

Just had a look at my car as it is currently jacked up and the front wheels are off.

One cap has a hole and the other doesn't? The one with the hole has a 2mm diameter hole directly in the centre of the cap.

I too have an old PC in the garage and a wireless connection to the house. Great for storing loads of music on and you can get internet radio stations.

Craig.

A (small) hole won't hurt, and will stop grease being pushed past the seals as things warm up.

Andy,

My replacement hub caps from Wards had no holes in them. I was having the same quandry as yourself. I mentioned this to Ed at Wards the next time I was speacking to him and he said to drill 1.5mm holes in - for very much the same reasons as Wilf states.

I'm glad you posted - I'd forgotten this was on my to do list!!

Simon.
