filling the fuel tank - 10 minutes!!!

now that I have the car on the road, all sorts of practical problems arise.

This weekend I stopped at a petrol station to fill up. Took me 10 minutes becaus every time the fuel came up to the cap, and I had to wait for it to drop and let the air out.

My fuel filler is on the wing, so I have a few bends in the filler hose to the tank, but is this something I shoudl get used to?

Or maybe a smart solution to this problem?

Patrick,

The filler cap on my Dax is directly above the filler pipe outlet rather than on the wing. I used to have similar problems with the fuel bubbling up in the hose and shutting off the pump. When I examined the filler hose, there was a very slight S-bend in it, rather than it being straight. So I shortened it by an inch or so to remove the kink - and it's fine now.

So, the problem will be the bends in the filler pipe which, as your filler cap is on the rear wing, are probably unavoidable. All I can suggest is that you try to minimise the radius of any bends in the hose.

The wing filler on my Ram used to be very slow to fill so I replaced the filler tube with one that was bent rather than mitred and put a bigger (1/2") breather in and it works a treat now.
