i see what you mean. However, will it be possible for me to get the correct angle by grinding the plate? If the plate wasn't threaded it would be easy to change the angle. Because, lets say i grind the plate 8deg the angle of the threads that hold the clutch slave are still 13deg.

Maybe i might be forced to grind the plate 8deg off at the engine side and then drill a straight through-hole (taking out the threads) and putting a couple of nyloc nuts in the bell housing. What do you think?

Simon,

I would definitely remove the angle as your slave cylinder will wear out very quickly.

I think you need a fix that will not cause you problems in years to come. For example - nylocs inside the bellhousing would be a pain if/when you need to remover/replace the slave. Why not weld a couple of nuts inside instead, to give captive nuts? And just use shakeproof washers under the bolt heads or some threadlocker?

well..... i buffed back the plate i welded on till it was flat.... drilled the angled hole till it was straight.... then tapped a half inch unc hole....put in a solid state cast helicoil with threadlock.... buffed off the top of the helicoil till it was flush with the welded bracket (so flush you can't even tell i've modified it) painted it red ....and hey presto on straight bulletproof clutch slave bracket

Thanks for all the help guys.....engine hopefully going in tomorrow or saturday!!!!!!

Yes mister Clarkson, it will clear the footwell by 75 mm (In a DAX), the edge of the fork is equal to the edge of the engine. Watch the picture.
This is one of the best setups for our Cobras.
You need to take in account the fork ratio and the pedal ratio to have a little pedal effort, but this is the best start.
Ford gearboxes have more problem because the fork ratio is to low and the pivot is located at the wrong place.

Sooooooo, tried to fit the engine tonight....

Engine and gearbox fits in (though i'll probably take it out and grind a bit more off the bellhousing because its so bloody close)

Mounting bolts DAX very kindly sent me F.O.C with my throttle cable are too short (by about 1" or 25.4mm for all you metric people).

Also despite cutting a small section out of the chassis webbing, my fuel pump hose is hitting the steering Universal Joint (my plan to fix this is to by a 90deg fitting that i can angle away from the UJ) so looks like all work on the car is screwed for this weekend unless someone local has two 7/16 x 4" high tenisile bolts the can give me.

Typical, just when you feel like you're making progress and you have everything you need
