Its certainly a good oil once its run in. It contains a lot of zinc which is good for the valve train so should be good for breaking the cam in. I'm sure others will be along to give more advice.

Regards,

Pete

Hi David

Valvoline 20/50 is what I used for my engine from day one.

Horsham brake service near the station sell it.

Proper name is Valvoline VR1 20/50

Craig.

Tim Adams recommended Valvoline VR1 20/50 for my 393 windsor stroker break-in & I had no problems.

Regards,
Martyn

20/50 Valvoline...run in oil

My 1 pence worth....yes indeed NON synthetic oil 1st 1500 or so miles
Valvoline darn good oil....20/50..little thick for my like'n in a street engine
with tight clearances 10W40's my choice of oil....but what do i know?
As discussed before most oils / mineral oil manufactors have greatly reduced or eliminated zinc based agents altogether in there oil ... zinc / zincdiakydithiophosphate is the tech name for this additive.
And i believe valvoline has followed suit ....zinc is hamfull to catalitic converters & to the ozone layer.
To get your engines fix of zinc use good quality mineral oil & add a bottle of STP(cheap) or LUCUS $ oil stabilizer or GM's $ oil additive....all of these products contain the needed zinc/anti scuff & anti wear agents you engine needs for proper break in.

My 1 pence / 2 cents Dr.Dee

I read somewhere that Valvoline still has zinc in it which is why it hasn't got an API approval.....I could be wrong, as usual!

Pete
