Just before I start her up.....

Its all together, oil pressure up and tight, no fuel leaks, and she turns over on the starter... a couple of final (final for this stage !) questions..
1.Has anyone got a photo of the rotor arm position with static timing at 8 deg BTDC (just for my peace of mind) (RV8 with Lucas DLM.
2. How do you clean out the glass fuel filters (some initial muck visible), do they dismantle?
3. On the Holley 390 carb, whats the unused pipe in attached phot? What's the neatest way of blanking off these redundant pipes?
Standing by.....

1. I can't help.
2. Throw it away and get a steel one.(Glass fragile, fuel explosive etc.)
3. Servo take off.

The answer to No 1 is going to depend on where the lead for No 1 plug is attached to your distributor cap.

If you have already taken a feed for your servo then this pipe might be for the PCV if you have not already sorted this out. As has already been pointed out get rid of the glass filter as soon as you can.

Before i start

Many thanks for the fuel filter advice, I will get on to that right away. The brake servo is taken off the stub pipe at the front of the Offy manifold. Do I need a PCV if I have a filter & air filter connections from the rocker cover? Is the carb connection now surplus?
Many thanks

Yes you will need a PCV set up no matter what. Normally if you have the appropriate fitting on each rocker cover you need to connect one to the port in your picture via a PCV and vent the other one to the atmosphere or connect it to the air filter.

In a slight bit of defense for the glass filters, I have one fitted to my car but it is on the vacuum side of the system between the tank and the pump. This is mounted under the car away from any sort of heat and has a cover to protect from stones or flying debris.

The only problem I have had so far is when I didn't tighten the two halves of it together tight enough and although it didn't leak fuel it did suck air into the pump.

This is the only filter I have on my car and I can't see a need for any more. In my opinion one filter is enough and keep it as close as possible to the tank.

How many petrol production cars do you see with a fuel filter under the bonnet?

Craig.
