Wheel Nuts not fitting?

I have just bought a set of tapered wheel nuts and i'm not sure if they fit properly. I think they wre designed for thin steel wheels, whereas our wheels are approx 20mm thick alloy centres.
I have enclosed a pic of the nut compared to the depth of the hole it sits in.
Nuts are sierra/cortina.
Cheers
Kevin

Hi Chris
The best way i can explain it is that the taper on the nut is only about 10mm long, whereas the depth of the wheel taper is 20mm. The taper does seem the right angle tho. The taper is mating on the hub side of the wheel and all the way to 1/2 way through the thickness of the wheel.
The attached pics were taken with a cmera phone, so are not ideal.
Cheers
Kevin

Kev
i think you may need these type of wheel nuts - just bought a set to fit 7-spoke ford alloys to my (Sierra-based) Robin Hood

Hi Chris
After looking at the standard 'modern' ford looking nuts, they only seem to bite into the inside part of the taper (not the complete depth of the taper). Mine look to have a similar length taper to the 'lightweight' nuts on ebay (with allen bolt heads).
would dimensions help ascertaining if mine are suitable?
Thanks for your help.
Kevin

Hi
Are the wheels from Tim at Raceways?
If so when i got a set a few years ago he supplied the correct nuts, the standard Ford alloy ones are bigger. If you need it i can take a nut off a take a picture.

Yes they do look like Racelites.

If so the nuts are different from the Ford type.

Can take a pic of mine if required.
