Replacing Spigot Bearing

Hi

Can anyone give me advice on taking the old spigot bearing out from a rover 3.5? Seems pretty well stuck in. The Rover manual says force it out with grease but that doesn't seem plausable. Any idea's or experiences?

Thanks

Martin

I bent a piece of reasonably thick welding rod into a u shape with large hooks bent on the ends. Forced it in through the centre and allowed the hooks to spring out behind the bush.
Jammed a screwdriver in the U which helped spread it then levered it out. Protect the journal with a packer so you don't score it.

Worked for me but then it wasn't stuck that hard in the end.

Hope that helps

Cheers

The grease method does work, fill as much of the cavity as possible and get a shaft/socket that is a good fit to the hole.
if using a socket, then fill that with grease as well, and give it a good thump with a rubber mallet. Hydraulics should do the rest

The grease method works well. You need a solid rod/bar thats a good fit in the bearing. Alternatively, I have used a small sharp cold chisel CAREFULLY to run a split down the bush then collapse it.

I got the old Chevy bearing out, that was stuck fast, by tapping the hole with a course thread. Wit-worth or UNC and then screwed in a bolt with the head cut off. Fitted a slide hammer to this and whacked it out.
