Repower Clutch Slave

I have just fitted my tremec to my sbc (via a repower bellhousing) however the clutch fork is now pushed all the way to the back of the window in the bellhousing with about 1 rizla's worth of free play!

This cannot be right as there is no allowance for clutch wear plus the slave pushrod is at a bit of wierd angle (but still loose).

I am confused - don't think I've done anything stupid

Here's a piccy:

Hi Simon,

The domed end of the screw on extention pushes the clutch arm forward.

Unscrew the domed extension, move the clutch arm forward, push the slave cylinder rod back into the slave cylinder and re screw on the domed extention. Back in out until all movement has been taken out of the clutch arm and then 'pre-load' it by turning half a turn.

That's the problem mark, the clutch fork won't go any further forward (without releasing the clucth) so I can't fit the domed nut on as it is as the slave rod wont go back any further.

Have I got the wrong release bearing? are there different sizes?

Cheers,

Simon

Hi Simon,

The slave cylinder rod does not look parallel to the slave cylinder which sugests that it has popped out. Undo the slave cylinder mounting bracket and you should be able to push it back in and then install the domed extension. Screw it right down and then reinstall the slave cylinder.

Howdy

Here is a pic of my set up I hope it helps.

Could it be that you mounted the bearing on the fork a bit far forward?? Just a thought.

Best Regards

Frank

Thanks for the info guys...

.... I have checked that the release bearing is fitted to the fork... OK

This just leaves the ball spigot.... mine is a fixed length and not adjustable. To achieve the correct fork alignment it lloks like I'll need a shorter one - or better still an adjustable one.

As gearbox and bellhousing (including clutch fork) came as a package for an SBC I would have expected it to fit?

Looks like it's time for some phone calls!

Cheers,

Simon.

The gearbox and bell housing will more than likely be fine. Did you buy your clutch from Repower? If not, then this is where the problem lies and you will need the adjustable pivot ball.

Thanks Dave,

I shall endeavour to make my ball adjustable.

Simon.

Problem solved.

The repower set-up is good for 99%+ of situations.. in my case I do need an ajustable ball spigot.... on it's way.

At least it wasn't me....... this time!

Simon.
