Rear Thrust washers

Gents,

A quick question on the rear thrust washers. Mine are somewhat pitted and rusty, Ive cleaned them up and each one is marked on one side and OK on the other.

Ive attached pictures below. I have one which is marked on both sides (top left) and as such I think I will replace it, my question is do you think the others need replacing as well? Has anyone reused ones that look as bad as these?

Is it OK to turn them round so the smooth face is on the seal and the scored side against the wishbone?

At £4.00 a shot Id rather not replace them all! (but will if I have to)

The inner ones are OK with just the edge needing cleaning up as thats where the seal sits, the seal retainners also need a little cleaning with one needing replacement.

Many Thanks

Many Thanks
So if you are too tight to part with £32 to replace them, don't come back here moaning that you've had to take everything to bits again to replace them later on! Do it now, It'll be money well spent in the long run, and peace of mind!

Thanks Clive for your frank advice! You are of course correct, I guess every pound I spend on the axle at the moment is putting me closer to being better off having got it all done by Wards.

Im also thinking it might be best to replace all of them, retainners and all just to be sure.

Cheers

Not worth skimping on the hardest job of the build, replace everything with new parts while it is stripped,

5000 mile down the road, something gives up, famous last words are, "I wish I'd taken notice of people on the Forum and replaced all the bits with new"

why buy new parts and spend 25k+ building a cobra

I think the point is that why spend out money when you don't have to ?
I agree some parts are a pain to change later on and is best replaced at the time of the build.
I starting building a dax cobra some twenty years a go ,
and just got back in to it in the last year ,

and I am horrified on the amount of money people are spending to build a cobra
I know it was never a poor mans hobby in the first place but I think thing have got all out of hand
25k + to build a cobra weir the reality in that.
it seem to me no one is willing to strip down an engine/ axle /brake caliper and re-build it any more just spend out large amounts of money for new parts .
I know of people who have got bank loans out / re morgue their house to build a cobra and by new engines and gearbox.

the idea of a kit car is to get a donor car ie a jag refurbish all the parts and put them on a new chassis
and end up with a car that did not cost an arm and leg to build and have some fun with it .
not to see how many new parts we can buy or how munch you can spend building a kit car ?

that how I see it any way

Thanks oilerO for that view, I am trying to save money wherever possible.

Im going to change all of them in this instance as Ive spent more money on other things that make the engine look pretty, this is a functional part that I want to get right.

As Clive said, its just because Im a tight git!

I think that "kit cars" have moved on a bit since this approach was relevant. There is no way I am going to risk my hide in a car capable of 150mph plus unless I have done everything in my power to make it right to begin with. And that means not skimping on the basics. And since I spend an inordinate amount of time running my business, I had little left to use up reconditioning the likes of suspension parts. I suspect that a lot of folks are in the same postion.

Mine looked like this

I degrease them and rubbed them down with wet and dry.
took about 1 hour total and they looked perfect after wards.
