| Rear Thrust washers Gents, A quick question on the rear thrust washers. Mine are somewhat pitted and rusty, Ive cleaned them up and each one is marked on one side and OK on the other. Ive attached pictures below. I have one which is marked on both sides (top left) and as such I think I will replace it, my question is do you think the others need replacing as well? Has anyone reused ones that look as bad as these? Is it OK to turn them round so the smooth face is on the seal and the scored side against the wishbone? At £4.00 a shot Id rather not replace them all! (but will if I have to) The inner ones are OK with just the edge needing cleaning up as thats where the seal sits, the seal retainners also need a little cleaning with one needing replacement. Many Thanks

| Thanks Clive for your frank advice! Im also thinking it might be best to replace all of them, retainners and all just to be sure. Cheers

| Not worth skimping on the hardest job of the build, replace everything with new parts while it is stripped, 5000 mile down the road, something gives up, famous last words are, "I wish I'd taken notice of people on the Forum and replaced all the bits with new"

| why buy new parts and spend 25k+ building a cobra I think the point is that why spend out money when you don't have to ? I agree some parts are a pain to change later on and is best replaced at the time of the build. I starting building a dax cobra some twenty years a go , and just got back in to it in the last year , and I am horrified on the amount of money people are spending to build a cobra I know it was never a poor mans hobby in the first place but I think thing have got all out of hand 25k + to build a cobra weir the reality in that. it seem to me no one is willing to strip down an engine/ axle /brake caliper and re-build it any more just spend out large amounts of money for new parts . I know of people who have got bank loans out / re morgue their house to build a cobra and by new engines and gearbox. the idea of a kit car is to get a donor car ie a jag refurbish all the parts and put them on a new chassis and end up with a car that did not cost an arm and leg to build and have some fun with it . not to see how many new parts we can buy or how munch you can spend building a kit car ? that how I see it any way oiler0 |

| Thanks oilerO for that view, I am trying to save money wherever possible. Im going to change all of them in this instance as Ive spent more money on other things that make the engine look pretty, this is a functional part that I want to get right. As Clive said, its just because Im a tight git!
