Towing Using A-frame

Hi guys,

anybody done this? seems like a reasonable option for me when I need to move the beast but am unsure about clearance and the practicalities of it. I have no where to keep a trailer and my daily driver isnt the best for pulling a big trailer with a fully ladened cob either.

Im thinking something like this on ebay, item number 180145093854 dunno how to post a link to it

cheers
Ben

I could be wrong, but I think the front end of a Cobra will be to low to get the angle required from the steering arms (where the "A" frame connects) up to the height of the towbar, the arms will more that likely touch the front of the Cob bodywork.

I think Mike is right, plus the towed car needs to be road legal using an a frame, if you buy a trailer dolley that the front wheels sit in/on, my understanding is that the towed car then becomes a trailer, so doesn't need tax insurance etc

Arse. thats what I thought.

The car will be road legal be soon as its svad, presumably the same rules apply about getting it to the SVA as in its ok with insurance.

Other than that, anybody know where I can hire/borrow/beg/steal a dolly from up north?

cheers
Ben

Dave Brookes will know where you can get one.
The price will depend on whether you have her for an hour or all night.

It would have to be all night, an hour wouldn't fit requirements.

The plot also thickens.

Towing "A" frames fine if the weight of what is being towed is less than 750Kg. Otherwise it has to be fitted with brakes, the same as with any trailer. This would be an absolute pain to rig up on your Cobra.
Give me a call Ben and let me know what you are planning on doing.

I could be stating the obvious, but why not drive it to SVA?

If you do drive it to SVA, make sure you drive through some cameras at speed - it's the only time you're legally allowed to drive with no plates!!

mmm Ive also read that in the mean time, but also that using an a-frame and a dolly is only acceptable when recovering a vehicle. Dunno what to do as yet. I have used my daily driver to tow it previously but not fully built and it didnt really pull it well with that, so I dunno yet. Let me think about it

Reason why Im not sure about driving it to the SVA is that its a fair slog down the motorway and from my previous attempts Im not totally convinced it would make it and totally shit scared! which is why I havent booked it in earlier, just left sat in my carcoon

I might plan a route without going the motorway route and take it that way. mm will see about that.
