Starter Circuit

Guys,

I am going to rig up a temporary electrical circuit to allow me to start my engine for the first time in the chassis but as my knowledge of electrical wiring is cak I am wondering if anyone has a basic starter / alternator wiring diagram they could email to me?

Regards,
Martyn

Hi Martyn
To get it started you dont actually need the altenator circuit connected.
All you need to do is connect a 12v feed from the battery to the starter solenoid, a big red wire to the starter terminal, everything earthed then bobs your uncle. That stands unless you have electronic ignition, then add a heap load of wires into the equation.
Hope that helps.
Cheers
Kevin

If you don't connect the alternator then you will more than likely fry it. It will need a load on it and the easiest way is to wire it to the battery so that it will charge it.

Thanks so far guys.

I have gotton this far upto now:

battery wired to starter & earth on chassis.
small diameter cable wired from push button starter to starter solenoid.
coil wired to battery, earth & dizzy.
radiator cooling fan wired to battery & earth.

All I have left to do is wire the alternator. I presume this is just a case of taking the alternator terminal wires to the battery live & chassis earth?

I am a complete numpty when it comes to auto wiring so if I have overlooked anything let me know.

Regards,
Martyn

Failing that take the belt off for the mean time..
If its just a test run you don't need to turn the alternator.

This is all assuming your belt does not turn anything else of course?

Ah ignore me then.......
Only know about my engine and how it is bodged together. I could (and did) take the belt off as it only operated the alternator.
