Chassis number

I have a pilgrim and it is in the latter stages of the build, my question is that I am unsure of what to do about the chassis number and plate. I don't have a number or where to look for it/ get it/ order it.
Any help please.

Make it up - 17 characters - letters and numbers. Or apply to Pilgrim for one.

Mine is along the following lines - P (ilgrim) S(umo) 1992 (date chassis supplied) {my date of birth - 21 again} [initial and part surname]

Simply come up with a Chassis Number you like, avoiding Z, Zero, letter "O",1,letter "I", and probably some others i can't remember

Thanks Robin, I was unsure wether I had to use the donor car numbers or if it was stamped on the sumo chassis somewhere. But to create our own would seem to be a bonus.

Pilgrim will supply you a nice metal plate for the number. This has their company name on and they will stamp your chassis number on it for you.
I riveted this plate to the stainless steel bulk head sheet and think it looks pretty neat.

You will also need to stamp the number onto the chassis itself. I borrowed a set of stamps to do this. Stamped on the chassis rail inside the engine bay.

(Jeff I still have your stamps mate, if you need them let me know or we will surely meet again at some point)

cheers
Graham

P.S my number was PS2005<myphonenumber>

Given the choice Graham I would rather have an AC chassis plate rather than pilgrim, I see flea bay have been doing them.... No disrespect to pilgrim of course.
Plus I would mount it in the same position as yours
Thanks for that valuable info anyway.

When Pilgrim supplied my chassis they had listed the chassis number on the order / receipt form. As mentioned above it started PS2004 year of manufacture then my complete home phone number ie 01332###### this results in in a 17 character id .

I stamped this on the top chassis member under the offside front wheel arch. This was very visible before fitting the inner wings. The DVLA inspector was impressed as it was easy for him to read and the SVA man liked it as well. Now it is not visible with the inner arches fitted.

Cheers
Ian

when i register my sumo some years ago after completing the sva test. i was told the chassis no had to be assigned by the manufacturer with paperwork showing company name and chassis no. I could make up the number myself as long as the paperwork came from pilgrim.

Thanks Mr Jones I think I will start the number with PS04 followed by DOB or phone number, but i was interested to know which digits could not be used.... i.e 1,0,s,5,I,q etc. I don't want to mess it up

Amongst others, you can't use Q ; O [LETTER] ; Z ; I

You might want to check with DVLA for an exhaustive list.

Re Mr Jones' comments - my paperwork from Pilgrim didn't have a chassis number on it. A phone call to Tony holmes should sort it out. As long as Pilgrim make a note of the chassis number you want next to the relevant invoice number, you should be OK. However I did go through the process a couple of years ago and it might be worthwhile getting Pilgrim to confirm the yourchassis number in writing once you have agreed what it should be.
