Fuel pump

I've seen a thread like this before but I'm damned if I can find it now!
Does anyone have a recommendation for a fuel pump to compiment the Weber/Edelbrock 500 carb? It is mounted on a Rover V8 via the Offenhauser manifold from RPI Engineering. I was thinking of getting the Facet silver top?
Also, I presume an additional in line filter is still needed between tank and pump?

Cheers

I have fitted a Facet Red Top with an inline regulator to limit the pressure down to around 5psi. Yes it is advisable to use an inline filter between the tank and the pump although the pump has it's own filter in the bottom.

Driven to France and back without incident.

Ideally you should fit a filter between your tank and the pump and another between pump and carb . Red Top pump works fine on my RV8/Edelbrock 500/Offenhauser manifold

Fuel Pump.

I bought my fuel pump from Real Steel for just over £50. They recommended a Carter unit. I'm using it with a Weber 500 on a RV8 4.0 litre engine with no problems. It came with all the required unions, etc for plumbing in.

One of their main comments was that it runs very quietly in comparison to many of the other units.

I have had a Carter pump for 6 years and 20k miles - no problems. Whereas on my old car, the facet pump crapped out on me much earlier.

The "quietness" of the Carter is a relative thing - they still make a racket.

I think it depends on the installation, the Carter in my Crendon makes quite a bit more noise that the old Facet in my RAM, both rubber mounted in an almost identical way and position, the Facet on my Hawk sounded terrible though, but it wasnt very flexibly mounted. I think the mounting makes all the difference so spend time and money on that if you dont want too much noise.

Put a filter king (non glass type bowl) filter and pressure reg in your engine bay, it will take the water and crud out of the fuel, and save you gas from the pump pressure overcoming the float needle/seat and flooding/running rich.

Whole heartedly agree, just make sure you don't buy one of those nice looking glass inline filters. They are prone to breaking from heat contraction and expansion (major cause of most cobra fires)

I have fitted a carter and have removed the fuel pressure guage 'cos it's glass as well.

True.
I can only hear my Carter pump before I start up.
Mounted in the boot, driver's side with the bobbins supplied with the pump.
I did make a spreader plate to mount it to, and this was Werthed to the fibreglass to give a liitle more sound deadening.

Go for the Carter pump, Facets are gay.
